New England Seacoast

June 11 – 17

Day One: Welcome aboard our deluxe motorcoach as we travel to the New England seacoast–one of the most beautiful and historic areas of the United States. Today we’ll travel north through Virginia and Maryland to the Harrisburg area for overnight.

Day Two: This morning we’ll continue through Pennsylvania, skirting New York City and Hartford as we travel through the “Constitution State” of Connecticut and into the “Bay State” of Massachusetts. Mid-afternoon finds us in Boston!  Known as the “Bean Town” and the “Hub of the Universe,” Boston is a bustling city filled with historic sights and buildings. This afternoon we’ll take a guided city tour of Boston to include: the Old North Church, Beacon Hill, the Boston Common, Cheers Bull & Finch Tavern, Bunker Hill, Granary Burying Ground, and other sights on the “Freedom Trail.” We’ll conclude our tour at Quincy Markets, where people like Benjamin Franklin, Paul Revere and Patrick Henry spoke out against the British and where the thought was planted for the infamous “Boston Tea Party.” We’ll have dinner in Boston, then travel north to Andover, Massachusetts – our home for the next two nights.

Day Three: Today we’ll travel north into Kennebunkport where we’ll meet our local guide for a tour of this lovely area where former president George Bush has a home. From here we’ll tour Portland, Maine– “the beautiful town that is seated by the sea,” as the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote. We’ll see the Portland Headlight, one of the oldest lighthouses in continuous use in America. Next, we’re in for a treat. We’ll board the Casco Bay Lines Mailboat for a cruise to Diamond Island. This is one of only a few mailboats still operating in the country! This afternoon we’ll travel on to Freeport for a chance to shop at the world-famous L.L. Bean Company.  Late this afternoon we’ll return to Andover for overnight.

Day Four: Our first stop will be at the John F. Kennedy Library and museum, then it’s on to Plymouth Rock, where according to history, the Pilgrims set ashore here on December 21, 1620. We’ll see the rock and tour the Mayflower II–a 90-foot full-sized reproduction of the type of ship that brought the Pilgrims from England. This afternoon have your cameras ready . . . we’ll take the beautiful drive along the “elbow and arm” of Cape Cod.  We’ll travel by Hyannisport (home of the Kennedys) and on to Provincetown–known as “Land’s End.”  Here we see the spot where the Pilgrims first set foot in the New World. We’ll also see artist colonies, quaint villages and scenic wildlife sanctuaries.

Day Five: This morning we’ll board the ferry for a cruise to beautiful Martha’s Vineyard for a sightseeing tour of the island! This is truly one of the most scenic places in all New England. We’ll see the oak bluffs, sea marshes, yacht harbors, jagged bays and inland ponds.  We’ll visit Edgartown–an island village on Edgartown Harbor.  This is a village of narrow streets, stately old homes and manicured gardens. Tonight we’ll enjoy a delicious New England lobster and seafood dinner.

Day Six: Today finds us in the seaside resort city of Newport, Rhode Island. Famous for its “Ocean Drive,” yacht harbor, and stately mansions, this area is and has been home to the wealthiest and most elite of  America’s society!  On our visit here, we’ll tour one of the most famous homes in the world: the “Breakers” – a 70 room mansion (and this was just a “summer home” for Cornelius Vanderbilt in 1895). This afternoon we’ll depart Newport and travel south through Rhode Island and Connecticut to New York City. We’ll make a brief sightseeing stop here and then travel on to the Philadelphia area for overnight.

Day Seven: Homeward bound. All good things must come to an end, and so must this great summer getaway to the New England Seacoast. We’ll travel south today via (Baltimore, Washington and Richmond) into North Carolina and home; however, we won’t return home without lots of memories (and pictures) of one of the best tours ever!
