Ride the Scenic Hiwassee River

Rail Adventure – and Sail the Lost Sea

May 18 – 19 | Nov. 2 – 3

Day One: Good morning and welcome aboard our deluxe motorcoach! We’ll head west this morning – making a fast food breakfast stop in Asheville, then heading west on I-40 into the “volunteer state” of Tennessee. We’ll travel through the Great Smoky Mountains, see the sights as we pass through Knoxville, then travel I-75 south to Sweetwater. We’ll enjoy a delicious buffet lunch (included) then sail the Lost Sea – one of the top attractions in the south. Following this we head to Mayfield Dairy Farms to see where it all began for this great southern treat. We’ll enjoy a guided tour of the home offices and processing plant before enjoying a cone (or cup) of our favorite flavor! We’ll overnight in Athens, Tennessee.

Day Two: We’ll enjoy breakfast and travel the short distance from Athens to Etowah. We’ll arrive at the historic Tennessee Valley Railway Station (you’ll probably recognize the station – it’s been used in numerous movies and television shows), where we’ll board our waiting train. The train parallels much of the scenic Hiwasee River offering views of the lower gorge. At the “Hiwasee Loop” the tracks corkscrew over themselves as they climb the mountain near Farner, Tennessee. From here we continue through the gorge and on to the former mining town of Copperhill, Tennessee – situated on the Tennessee – Georgia state line. We’ll enjoy lunch and a chance to visit some of the specialty shops in Copperhill. This afternoon we’ll head east across one of the most scenic parts of North Carolina. Our route will take us by Murphy & Andrews and through the Natahala National Forest. We’ll stop in Dillsboro and enjoy a delicious “family style” dinner (included) at the famous Jarrett House Restaurant. What a wonderful two days of touring!
