Plot

Hari Kishan (Mohanlal) arrives in Mumbai from Andhra Pradesh and gets a job as a mechanic. He befriends Abbas Ali (Rami Reddy), a local gangster who works for Mudaliar (Cochin Hanifa), a political leader and a crime lord. Hari also falls in love with Kiran (Geeta Manjula), a prostitute who works for Amar Bakia (Mahesh Anand), another gangster and Mudaliar's rival. Hari witnesses Abbas killing Mudaliar on Amar's orders and avenges his death by killing Abbas. This makes him a hero among the slum dwellers and he forms his own gang. Hari decides to be a gangster with a difference, as he does not extort money from the poor and the needy, and abolishes the hafta system, which is a weekly fee paid by the slum dwellers to the police and the gangsters for protection. This angers Amar and the police, who try to eliminate Hari by various means. Hari also faces opposition from his own gang members, who are tempted by Amar's offer of partnership. Hari has to fight against all odds to survive and protect his love.

Review

Satyaghath: Crime Never Pays Tam is a typical Priyadarshan film, which mixes action, comedy, romance and drama in equal proportions. The film has some thrilling sequences, such as the chase scene between Hari and Abbas, the shootout at the railway station, and the climax at the airport. The film also has some humorous moments, such as the scenes involving Cochin Hanifa, who plays a dual role of Mudaliar and his twin brother. The film also has some emotional scenes, such as the one where Hari meets his mother after a long time, and the one where Kiran reveals her past to Hari.

The film's biggest strength is Mohanlal's performance as Hari Kishan. He portrays the character with ease and charisma, and makes the audience root for him. He also displays his versatility by speaking fluent Telugu in some scenes. Mahesh Anand is effective as the villainous Amar Bakia, who is ruthless and cunning. Geeta Manjula is convincing as Kiran, who is torn between her love for Hari and her loyalty to Amar. Rami Reddy is menacing as Abbas Ali, who is loyal to Amar till the end. Cochin Hanifa is hilarious as Mudaliar and his twin brother, who have opposite personalities.

The film's music by Ravindra Jain is average, with no memorable songs. The film's cinematography by S. Kumar is good, capturing the gritty atmosphere of Mumbai's slums. The film's editing by N. Gopalakrishnan is crisp, keeping the pace of the film steady.

Satyaghath: Crime Never Pays Tam is an entertaining crime film that showcases Mohanlal's acting prowess and Priyadarshan's directorial skills. The film may not be original or realistic, but it is engaging and enjoyable.
